6. Playing Up Cruiserweights’ Strengths

Call it Triple H blowing smoke, but the Game’s opening commentary about cruiserweights was a great testimonial to lightweight wrestlers from years past and present.

Triple H commented on these “unique and exciting” competitors whose stature had been “overshadowed by their accomplishments.” The accompanying video included shots of wrestlers like Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko, Billy Kidman, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero and Daniel Bryan, all smaller wrestlers who hung in there against bigger performers and were notable stars of yesteryear (with Bryan being somewhat of a bridge).

That reference allowed Triple H to shift from talking about the abilities of cruiserweights to noting that this tournament represents an opportunity for a new generation to make its mark in pro wrestling. If that didn’t sound like an indication that some of these guys could hang around, then we’ll just have to wait for official word.
