6 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE Night Of Champions 2023
1. A Completely Contrived Ending
We’ll get into the actual drama and details surrounding the finish of the tag team main event, but we’ve got to zero in on just how contrived that ending was.
Referee Dan Engler got wiped out via spear, which allowed plenty of time for all the shenanigans that took place afterward, with the Usos running in and interfering, inadvertently superkicking Solo Sikoa, then Jimmy Uso finally turning on Roman Reigns, triggering a lengthy dramatic scene in the ring, before a new ref miraculously ran in just in time to count 3 after a Helluva Kick.
If the drama played out over the course of maybe 2 minutes, we could excuse the gap as believable. But this dragged on for what seemed like a solid 5-7 minutes (maybe even longer), with the entire Usos pathos playing out in the middle of the ring before we even got back to the match proper, during which we still didn’t have a referee from the back.
No worries, the minute Sami Zayn hit a Helluva and covered Solo, a ref was racing down the aisle and slid in just in time to count 3. Give us a break.
