Among the segments that aired Saturday night was a clip from Johnny Knoxville, who announced that he was entering the 2022 Royal Rumble. Because WWE is really going for the upper end of the 18-49 demographic by inserting the “Jackass” star into the annual match.

Celebrities in matches like these rarely work. Drew Carey was comical only because he never had to do anything and eliminated himself. But Knoxville does physical comedy, which means we might get him trying to dive on someone or do something involving a wrestling move.

Even as someone who watched Jackass years ago, this writer has no real desire to see Knoxville take up a spot in the Rumble for some forced comedy. Maybe they’ll have something clever planned, but WWE hasn’t earned any goodwill in that category.
