6 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Oct 7)

4. Crews A No-Chipper

It hurts to write this, but WWE needs to cut bait with Apollo Crews.

That doesn’t mean they should release him, but they need to stop passing him between Raw and SmackDown and talking about him as a “blue-chipper,” as they did Monday night. Crews got a promo where he talked about using his match against Ricochet as an opportunity to stand out and step up.

Instead, Apollo predictably lost in short order, hitting his signature spots but doing nothing out of the ordinary. It was a boilerplate Crews match: inoffensive, athletic, but completely unmemorable.

So what should WWE do? They should do what they should have done years ago: Send Apollo back to NXT, where he’ll stand a better chance of success. Crews gets completely lost on Raw or SmackDown, and shuffled between the two brands repeatedly. On NXT, there’s a better chance he’ll get a showcase while also getting the attention he needs to make those connections he’s failing to on the main roster.
