6 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE Raw (July 6)

5. Orton Aids Truth

Look, you don’t need a reason for it, but you’ve got to wonder why Randy Orton didn’t take R-Truth’s head off Monday night.

Orton and Ric Flair were backstage breaking down Randy’s match when Truth banged into Orton, nearly knocking him over. He then looked Flair up and down and observed that the Dirtiest Player in the Game cleans up really nice… a little too nice. Truth then suspected Nature Boy was really Akira Tozawa in disguise, until the real Tozawa could be heard offscreen approaching, so the 24/7 champ fled.

When Tozawa and his ninjas approached, Orton stopped them cold, then sent them in a different direction than the one Truth fled in. Why? Who knows? Maybe Randy has a soft spot for R-Truth.

Whatever the case, it was a decent example of humor intersecting a serious angle without damaging it. Truth is one of those rare characters where it just works.
