6 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE Raw (June 15)

3. Defending Edge’s Honor

Grading the opening segment on its own, it’s a little tough to give it positive marks.

Randy Orton came out to gloat after winning the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, making him the greatest wrestler ever. (Sure, why not?) He redubbed himself the Legend Killer and thanked Edge for rekindling his fire. He got in a pretty sick burn about how Edge would be cleared to wrestle again in July… of 2029.

And then Christian came out to defend his best friend’s honor. Now, keep in mind that Orton won the match pretty much fair and square, save for one low blow at the end (which is about as clean as a heel gets these days). And that quickly leads to Orton challenging Christian to one more match… an unsanctioned one.

Right then and there, this writer was cringing. Christian was forced to retire due to injuries. He was banged up his last few years as an active wrestler and was the lesser of the two men in the tag team. It just didn’t feel believable. It’s hard to quantify.

Sorry, but that was just a gut feeling, and sometimes, you’ve got to go with it.
