3. How Far Interviewers Have Fallen

In the wake of “Mean” Gene Okerlund passing away, many WWE fans have been reliving the greatest interviewer in professional wrestling history. Many of his exploits were catalogued on the WWE Network, making for some must-watch content.

And it also made a brief moment on Raw Monday night even more painful.

It’s no secret that most of today’s WWE interviewers are little more than microphone jockeys, expected to look good, ask one insipid question and then stand there silently holding the mic while the wrestler delivers his or her scripted promo unchallenged.

But Dasha Fuentes lowered the bar to new depths Monday. Waiting outside Vince McMahon’s office for news about who would face Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble, she finally got her chance. Vince emerged, and Dasha got his attention by saying, “Mr. McMahon…” and then stuck the mic in his face and smiled.

The best part is that McMahon called her out for such a stupid reaction and bypassed her. Now, it might have been scripted that way, but good God, if that’s the case, then it’s on the writers for such a dumb moment. Mean Gene would never have played that game.
