Regular readers of this column know that this writer has very little tolerance for WWE€™s annual partnership with Susan G. Komen every October and many of the breast cancer-related segments that air that month. It€™s over-the-top pandering and self-congratulatory backslapping.

But one segment that rang true was that of Joan Lunden sharing her story about surviving breast cancer. It was a simple, direct, heartfelt appeal to fans and viewers, and the crowd reacted well to it when she spoke on Raw.

So when it was announced Monday that Lunden would receive the WWE€™s Warrior Award for her advocacy for breast cancer awareness, it made sense and was a welcome decision. For better or worse, WWE is engrossed in breast cancer awareness, and Lunden is as good of an ambassador for the company to recognize as any other.
