6 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE Raw Superstar Shakeup

8. Working An Angle

This is the sort of fourth-wall stuff that drives people nuts. If it’s the 21st-century equivalent of working fans, then us non-millennials want to get off the ride.

There was a lot of chatter this week about Sasha Banks’ activity on social media, unfollowing WWE and following AEW, along with some cryptic tweets after she and Bayley lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania. The speculation was that Banks was pissed about losing the titles so soon and threw a tantrum, even trying to quit WWE.

So WWE turned it into a bit of an angle, with Bayley unable to reach her via phone Monday, and then Renee Young running down part of the backstory, with Corey Graves, a regular Sasha critic, saying she “lost her ball and quit the game.”

This of course will kick off a new round of fresh speculation: Is the entire thing – including Banks’ social media activity – a work? Is this WWE weaving in Sasha’s bizarre behavior as they write her off?

It’s just one of those things where we just don’t know, and it’s tough to rally behind it at this point. But opinions can change.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
