6 Ups And Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Jan 12th)

1. Macho Goes Into The Hall Of Fame

The most glaring omission from the WWE Hall of Fame will finally be rectified this spring when Hulk Hogan posthumously inducts €œMacho Man€ Randy Savage. To say this honor is long overdue is an understatement, especially considering that Hogan was inducted a decade ago. Whatever the reason for the delay, it€™s irrelevant now, as Savage will finally be enshrined. Sure, the WWE HOF is a company-driven product and its members are selected without any real criteria (see Ware, Koko B.), but what this really means is that Macho Man€™s accomplishments and legacy can be touted on WWE programming openly. For a while, it seemed like camera operators went out of their way to cover up CM Punk paying tribute to Savage before delivering an elbow drop €“ Punk would point skyward ala Macho, but the camera would zoom in on his face and not show the gesture. One thing that Savage€™s pending induction draws attention to: The promos that were played during the highlight package show exactly what€™s wrong with WWE today. Look at Savage€™s legendary €œCream of the Crop€ promo from 1987. Could you see any of the WWE monkeys bang out a promo like that on their keyboards? Yes, the unscripted promos were risky at times, but they also delivered some of the truly memorable moments of wrestling television. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C4lK41SX-Q With CM Punk gone, is there anyone on the active roster who could give a promo that would resonate like this? Bray Wyatt is pretty good, but even he pales in comparison to what Macho Man brought to the table week in and week out. It€™s just a shame that Randy Savage isn€™t around to receive the accolades personally.
