6 Ups And Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Jan 19)

DOWNS€

6. Barrett Loses Again

Get the Intercontinental Championship off of Bad News Barrett. Now. This is rapidly becoming a terrible joke. A week after announcing that €œMacho Man€ Randy Savage would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, the current holder of the title that Savage (and Ricky Steamboat) made famous jobbed for the second time in 10 days. In Savage€™s day, being Intercontinental Champion meant you held the second-highest title in the company and were a top contender for the world title. Savage spent a lot of promo time running down his current IC challenger and WWF Champion Hulk Hogan, just to show where his focus was. Contrast that with Barrett, who lost to Sin Cara just days after winning the title for a fifth time. He won a title match against Sin Cara on Smackdown, but lost to Dean Ambrose Monday night. Granted, Ambrose really needed the victory, but is the roster stretched so thin that no one was available to job to Ambrose? Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel and Jack Swagger were all busy, so WWE had to send its secondary champ out to lose?

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
