6 Ways Gabe Sapolsky's ROH Followed Paul Heyman's ECW Legacy

4. It's Not Based In One Place

ECW wasn't exclusively based in the warehouse turned wrestling arena pictured above but the two are synonymous with each other. The majority of the company's shows, particularly televised ones, were helmed from the iconic venue that changed its name from Viking Hall to the ECW Arena as it named itself after its most famous residents. It remained that way for nine years until XPW overtook it in 2002. Ring of Honor remained in the Tri-State Area as ECW before it but moved around venues with more frequency. As such the promotion never found itself attached to a particular "home". The move allowed ROH to gets its name out to a wider audience that still managed to become as passionate for the product and wrestlers on display. ECW is well-known for having memorable fans that were integral to the product thanks to its regular attendees, which is something that ROH lacked thanks to moving around. It didn't stop the different crowds from sharing traditions and voicing mutual opinions about the product and the performers. Just ask Jimmy Rave who found himself peppered with toilet paper in any arena that ROH arrived at.
