In 2006, John Laurinaitis was tasked with finding fresh female talent WWE could use as part of their 'Diva Search' angle. As backwards as it seems now amidst a time when women are treated like proper pro wrestlers (imagine that), Johnny decided the best course of action would be trawling through endless fashion magazines.

That's how he found Barbie Blank, otherwise known as Kelly Kelly.

The then-19 year old's modelling agency were called, and WWE offered Kelly a contract. Forget the fact she couldn't wrestle, this was WWE circa '06. Actually working matches was the least of Laurinaitis' or WWE's concerns. They only want Kelly Kelly to look good. The training part could come later.

So, just like that, the fashion model found herself entering the weird world of pro wrestling, and she was posted to the old OVW developmental territory for seasoning. 13 years ago, WWE thought nothing of plucking non-wrestlers out of nowhere to fill the female ranks.
