6 WWE Hell In A Cell Opening Matches - From Worst To Best

It is Hell in a Cell time once again, but how have the show openers faired over the years?

The days when Hell in a Cell would feel like a special match are long gone, with the structure now getting its very own special event as the WWE calendar slowly trundles its way down to Christmas. This year sees the seventh edition of the event, and the previous six years have given us a variety of absolute classics along with Randy Orton matches. 2015 will be the first time Orton has missed the event, just as he was about to face vaguely fresh opponents. Fate I tell you, fate. But what of the opening matches of the show? Last month I looked at the opening bouts from Night of Champions and the whole thing was something of a chore. Colour me pleasantly surprised then as I began the same task for Hell in a Cell. The six events have thrown up six very different matches, with not a single competitor competing in the opener on more than one occasion. An amazing variety of matches have also taken place, everything from technical brawls to tag team madness to a Cell match itself. Enough rambling, on to the rankings. Here are the opening matches from each Hell in a Cell event, ranked from worst to best.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
