A feud between Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels was always on the cards, and not just because the Legend Killer, in his capacity as Evolution's water-carrier, spent much of his first few months on Monday Night Raw beating up on all those who dared to challenge Triple H's position at the top of the card.

As well as that, there was the fact that HBK was also once a precocious talent of whom big things were expected, and in true WWE story-telling tradition, the parallels between his (former) character and that of Orton - both of them ambitious, brash and more than a little vain - featured prominently in the build-up to their match at Unforgiven 2003.

With the help of Ric Flair and a handy pair of brass knucks, Orton got the win - his first big PPV victory - and in turn became a serious singles competitor in his own right.
