The heel turn and singles push of Shawn Michaels over 20 years ago was a big deal at the time because the Rockers were one of the most popular tag teams in WWE. When Michaels threw his partner Marty Jannetty into the Barber Shop window it put him on a new path as a singles star. They ended up pairing him with Sensational Sherri, who was a former wrestler that had a successful career as a heel manager. It was the perfect choice with Sherri choosing Michaels because he was a "boy toy" for her. Michaels always had this arrogance about him as a heel, so it's not like he ever had her out there because he cared about her. The idea was that she was good distraction for his opponents and he took advantage of that at every opportunity. Over the years, Michaels has talked about how helpful Sherri was to him and how he thought she was a perfect addition to his career. It always felt right. Plus, the origins of his "sexy boy" theme song come from her singing it, but that got changed once they split up.
