7 Best WWE Tag Team Rivalries Of The Past Decade
5. The Shield Vs. Cody Rhodes & Goldust
Rarely does a tag team rivalry have stakes as high as a singles feud.
That was the case in the summer of 2013, when Cody Rhodes and Goldust were fighting for their jobs as Triple H pitted them against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins of The Shield.
Rhodes had been kayfabe fired for speaking out against the Chief Operating Officer, and his brother, who had not been seen on WWE television in six months, failed to get them both reinstated when he lost to Randy Orton. After Big Show had knocked out the late, great Dusty Rhodes, the sons of 'The American Dream’ gatecrashed RAW to a massive pop.
The crowd were super into Cody at this point, and were also invested in seeing the Rhodes brothers team for the first time to try to get redemption for the attack on their father. The Shield were equally hot after establishing themselves as the coolest act on RAW.
The in-ring action was solid, if not spectacular, as Rhodes and Goldust beat The Shield twice, firstly at Battleground 2013 to save their careers, and on RAW to win the WWE Tag Team Championships. The pick of the matches between the teams came at Hell in a Cell 2013, when The Brotherhood defended in a triple threat match which also involved The Usos.
