7 Bold Predictions For The WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2023
1. Celebrity Wing: Cyndi Lauper
Lance Storm is adamant that Cyndi Lauper should not be inducted into the Celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame.
He argues - with some justification - that she deserves to be in the actual, what, main body of it? It isn't a real place. But you get the idea.
When known as the WWF, WWE broke big with an astute, multi-platform assault on the U.S. consciousness. It was everywhere. Toy shops. Network television. The fanciest arenas in town. Pay-per-view.
And, significantly, MTV.
MTV increased the WWF's profile and, by proxy of what a phenomenon it was unto itself, made it cool. The kooky, inordinately likeable bop merchant Lauper was so successful in getting the people onboard that WWE has chased the strategy ever since. Guest hosts, American football players, social media entrepreneurs: WWE recruits them all, and has done for nearly 40 years, in the hope that they can achieve a fraction of what Lauper did.
Lauper revealed on Twitter in 2018 that WWE somehow haven't extended the invitation, which is truly baffling. She has appeared for WWE in the years since, so it's likely she'd reciprocate.
Triple H knows what built the empire and, with his role in the induction of Bruno Sammartino in 2013, wants to recognise that.
