7 Famous WWE Gimmicks Originally Intended For Other Superstars

4. Mighty Mouse - Chris Candido

WWE/CBS

For the longest time - and for no conceivably good reason - rumours abound that Neville was to be promoted to the main roster under a truly horrid sounding 'Mighty Mouse' gimmick. Can you imagine? Luckily - aside from the cape - the Geordie has managed to avoid such ignomy, but who knows, maybe it would have encouraged the promotion to get behind his stellar talents in a less half-ar*ed way?

Remarkably, the idea wasn't a new one; it's been on McMahon's mind for the better part of two decades. The gimmick asked for the portrayer to wear mask and cape in the same style as rodent super-hero Mighty Mouse. For those of you that don't know, Mighty Mouse was small, but did big things. He was basically the mouse form of Superman.

How this would work is anyone's guess, but it was initially intended for Chris Candido back in 1995. Like Neville, Candido was spared the mouse gimmick, but he didn't avoid complete embarrassment; he was put into The Bodydonnas tag team with Dr.Tom Pritchard and his real-life girlfriend at the time, Sunny, as their valet.
