7 Fascinating Backstage WWE Facts About John Cena

1. Has Been On Top Longer Than Hulk Hogan Was

Hulk Hogan's main run on top of the then-WWF from 1984-1990 was around 6 full years in length. On top of that, the 'Hulkster' returned for main event runs in 1991, 1992, 1993 and at various other points right up until his last featured main event Pay-Per-View match at SummerSlam 2005 against Shawn Michaels. With that in mind, those returns were usually brief, and only for a few months. All in all, Hulk Hogan's star has declined somewhat over the years. He's still a revered figure in pro wrestling circles, even if recent racism allegations have threatened that. As for John Cena, he was first thrust into the main event scene properly in 2005. Since then, he hasn't really looked back. Despite stepping away from the main event scene for most of 2015, he's still the biggest single star that WWE have. Even taking into account his move away from the main event spotlight, John Cena lasted close to 10 years on top in WWE. That's longer than both The Rock and Steve Austin managed, and even longer than Hulk Hogan. That gives some insight into how valuable Cena is to the company he represents. The argument over whether or not Cena is a bigger star than Hogan is difficult, but he has certainly been on top - full-time - for longer.
