Chris Jericho's first Intercontinental Championship reign began in December 1999 with a victory over Chyna at the fan-favorite Armageddon pay-per-view. The feud, hardly a star-making turn for Jericho, provided him the first high-profile program of his WWE career. Most importantly, it netted him his first title.

After forcing a tapout from Chyna, courtesy of the Walls of Jericho, he continued to feud with The Ninth Wonder of the World in the most prominent midcard program offered by wrestling's hottest promotion.

Jericho defeated her and second top contender Bob Holly at the Royal Rumble in January 2000 and waged war with stars the likes of Tazz, Chris Benoit, Rikishi and Kurt Angle. It was the Olympic gold medalist that would end his reign under dubious circumstances.

On paper, the run is hardly impressive but in the moment, with one of the most impressive rosters in WWE history opposing him, it is deceptively impressive.
