7 History Lessons AEW Could Learn From TNA

3. Having Too Many Titles Is A Bad Thing

Impact Wrestling currently has a World Title, Tag-Team Titles, the X Division Title and the Knockouts (Women's) Title. Four is a nice round figure that encapsulates the most important parts of any wrestling product. There's no need for more belts, because they only dilute the importance of the others around them.

Look at WWE for proof.

Not including NXT's tightly-knit structure, they promote nine different titles on TV. Sure, that's across three brands, but it's a few too many, and it leaves some (the Tag and United States ones, mainly) feeling like they don't matter. TNA were once the same; the defunct Knockouts Tag, Legends/Global/TV/King Of The Mountain and Grand Championships were all useless before they pared things down.

AEW doesn't need anything more than a World Title, some Tag-Team belts, a Women's Title and maybe a secondary one once the promotion is better-established. Keeping it at three would be wise at first so fans are left with no doubt who the champ is and who their main challengers are.

Simplicity is key.
