7 Match Star Ratings For WWE Clash At The Castle
3. Edge & Rey Mysterio Vs. Finn Bálor & Damian Priest
As somebody who attended WrestleMania XXX live in person, Edge's pop rivalled Daniel Bryan's. The man was incredibly over.
This match was so much fun in the building. Unfussy, light, and nostalgic, its crowd-pleasing vibe didn't detract from the drama. The babyface win and glorious 2002 callbacks did however obscure the post-match angle in plain sight. The use of contrasts here really was expert shock tactic storytelling. Watching Edge and Rey Mysterio work like it was 2002 with their old double team signatures was so great - astonishing, really, given their respective ages and injury records. Without being a classic, this was masterful stuff across the board. The build to Edge's hot tag was loaded with hope.
In a scene that shocked the stadium, Dominick blasted Edge in the balls and mirrored exactly the Eddie Guerrero heel turn which, combined with his mullet, was superb, detailed booking.
The heel run might very well fail, because Dom is hardly a great TV performer, but the turn itself, complete with Finn Bálor pissing himself laughing, was inch-perfect.
Star Rating: ★★★½
