This one though, was just plain farcical. As part of his ongoing rivalry with authority figure John Laurinaitis, Cena took on the man formerly known as Johnny Ace, at Over the Limit 2012. What followed was 17 of the most cringe-worthy minutes in pay-per-view main event history. Clearly this was never going to be a clinic in pro wrestling excellence, but they could have at least tried to take this one seriously. The two foes spent the majority of the match simply cavorting around. Some of Cenas offense included ringing the bell in Laurinaitis ear, taking a break to offer his own commentary, and relinquishing the STFU on the proviso that Big Johnny could go ten seconds without submitting. Mercifully Big Show would show up and give this match some sort of meaning, knocking out Cena and allowing Laurinaitis to pick up the spoils. Of course its embarrassing when someone like Cena loses to someone whos not even technically an in-ring competitor. But on this occasion, the embarrassment extended far beyond thatthe match was simply a poor attempt at humour and a massive waste of time. Credit to authority figures such as Mr. McMahonat least he could actually do a job in the ring when required to do so. Then again, I feel like this one would have been an embarrassing match no matter who Cena had faced, such was the quality of its content. Heres hoping that the authority figures of Laurinatis' talent stay away from the main event in future, both for their sake and for ours.
