3. Kenny Omega Vs. Wrestling Traditionalists: A ****** Classic

Jim Cornette last week compared Kenny Omega to Adolf Hitler for exposing the business in comedy matches with prepubescent girls.

As if in response, he wrestled a totally stupid comedy match with Toru Yano on July 25. Yano taped Omega's ankles together, forcing him to hop around the ring. It was both very silly and very clever - Omega's body must be aching badly. A match like this, that was never, ever going to be a classic anyway, allowed him to conserve his energy. He worked smart.

Not according to Lance Storm: he posted a GIF of the match on Twitter with a withering "Ummmm." Better yet, he was joined in his serious moment by an even emptier charisma vacuum in Davey Boy Smith Jr., who responded with "Yeah what a load of cr*p." Storm's reaction is permissible. He's wrestled in some cracking matches and is drily witty. But Davey Boy Smith Jr.? He was apparently upset that he wasn't included in the G1 Climax this year, hence his response. He's decent enough, sure. But Davey Boy Smith Jr.?

Omega won the day in response: "“What’s worse, successful comedy within the confines of a ring of a failed attempt at being entertaining while wrestling serious?”

What's brilliant about this is that you could not have picked two more dull wrestlers to rage against what ultimately was a throwaway comedy match. It's half-surprising that Eric Escobar didn't have a pop.
