7 Potential Storylines That Could Improve WWE
If WWE wants to maintain it's place at the top of the mountain then the product must evolve...
WWE is in a strange place nowadays.
Having wrestled the position of the world's leading wrestling promotion from WCW during the Monday Night Wars, Vince McMahon's empire has monopolized the world of wrestling. WWE became a household name during the Attitude Era and, after its defeat of WCW, coasted on that power to define themselves as THE business in town.
However, with All Elite Wrestling's upcoming event All Out having sold out, as well as a two-hour weekly TV show debuting on TNT in October, WWE may just have some creative competition once more.
The booking decisions of WWE have been criticized by fans and talent alike, many taking shots at Vince McMahon's creative direction. This has been reflected by a decrease in audience participation, with only 3,500 people in attendance for the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw. WWE Superstars have spoken out against the brand, with former WWE Champion Jon Moxley jumping ship to AEW and former Raw Women's Champion Sasha Banks wanting to follow him out the door - though other wrestlers such as Seth Rollins have remained loyal to the company and McMahon's creative capability.
WWE appears to be at a crossroads. It could relaunch its content and utilize the plethora of talented workers on the roster to produce new and engaging quality story-lines and wrestling matches. Or it could continue on its current path with attendance figures and ratings slowly plummeting as fewer people invest themselves in the WWE product.
7. Make Lynch And Rollins The New Faces Of WWE
Stomping Grounds lay the groundwork for the future of WWE's creative direction going forward.
One moment that had the Tacoma crowd cheering was the interference of Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch in the Universal Championship match between Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin. Lynch made the save after special guest referee Lacey Evans hit The Beastslayer with a low blow, both champions standing tall to a thunderous ovation to close out the show. This unified front is already being injected into the current program as, on the following night's Raw, Lynch and Rollins were booked in a mixed tag match at Extreme Rules against The Lone Wolf and The Sassy Southern Belle.
The pairing of Lynch and Rollins is being received well by fans and WWE would do well to run with it. Reminiscent of Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth, The Man and The Architect are both at the top of their game right now. Both are talented champions who are over with the fans and would prove more popular figureheads than exhausted heel couple Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. WWE should capitalize on the status of these Superstars, who have the potential to have numerous key angles written around them.
