7 Reasons Asuka Should Be Moving To WWE SmackDown Live

1. Charlotte Flair

Is there a bigger money match in women’s wrestling right now than Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair? Without wanting to revert to an overly-tired trope at this point, it is a WrestleMania-worthy match to say the least. The most dominant wrestler in NXT history against the most dominant (main roster) female of the last few years? That deserves the biggest stage of them all.

Now, WWE could quite easily book this match still, as WrestleMania is one of the rare nights of the year where cross-brand matches happen. WWE doesn’t seem likely to book a non-championship women’s single match at the 'Show of Shows' however. Asuka’s move to RAW means the match with Charlotte will not happen for some time.

If Asuka was moved to SmackDown instead of RAW, the wheels would be set in motion for a huge singles match at WrestleMania between her and Charlotte. Women’s wrestling has come a long way over the last few years, but the dirt-bad booking of Bayley and Sasha on RAW means it has taken something of a hit in 2017. Charlotte vs. Asuka could have breathed new life into the revolution.

It could happen, of course. Asuka moving to RAW makes it unlikely though, for the time being at least. WWE has shot itself in the foot by deciding to move the Empress of Tomorrow to Monday nights as opposed to Tuesday, and women’s wrestling in the company will suffer for it.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
