7 Reasons Biker Gimmick Was Nearly The Death Of The Undertaker
3. It Broke Kayfabe Far Too Much
The American Badass gimmick really started to go downhill upon the introduction of Undertaker's then-wife, Sara. Introduced as part of a feud with Diamond Dallas Page, she completely robbed her husband of his previous menace. If there's one thing menacing wrestlers such as Undertaker should never be portrayed as, it's family men. Suddenly we saw Undertaker - a man who had previously kidnapped Vince McMahon's daughter and attempted to force her into an unholy wedding - become incredibly protective of his wife. This very personal feud didn't even result in the sort of epic bloodbath needed; instead, Undertaker completely dominated DDP in a series of one-sided squash matches. The worst aspect of the feud was what it did for kayfabe. In the modern era, Undertaker remains the last true protector of kayfabe. He keeps a low profile away from the ring, and refuses to break character via Hall of Fame appearances or shoot interviews. The Sara/DDP angle remains the only real blip on his otherwise immaculate record, especially given his wife's tendency to refer to him as 'Mark' in backstage segments.
