7 Reasons Kevin Owens Is The New CM Punk

7. He Just Beat John Cena

CM Punk's career took off in earnest after defeating John Cena at Money In The Bank 2011, a match regarded by many as one of the finest in recent WWE history. Although not a bout of quite the same caliber, Owens' defeat of Cena at last week's Elimination Chamber was still a great contest which should help take the NXT Champion's career to the next level. Beating Cena clean will make anybody look strong, and that stands as a testament to the effectiveness of his oft-criticised character. However, credit must also be given to Owens for the ease and speed with which he gathered support in the build-up, as this crucially made the victory as meaningful as it was impressive. Sunday's win could be a huge launchpad for the Canadian, just as it was for Punk four years ago.
