7 Reasons The 2016 Dusty Rhodes Classic Won't Be As Good As 2015
3. The Champs Must Be Protected
Going into the 2015 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, the NXT Tag Team Champions were none other than Aiden English and Simon Gotch. A babyface duo, they weren't vital enough to brand to have to make it to the finals, no dominant enough in the division to make that a foregone conclusion. As a result, the field was wide open and their second round loss to The Mechanics was shocking, but acceptable.
The Revival haven't just been the best tag team in NXT in 2016, they have been the best tag team in the entire world. They have perfected the art of heel tag team wrestling, and have established such dominance that somebody beating them in the tournament would have to have been booked as a huge deal.
There are options of course, as Dash & Dawson are scheduled to meet DIY in the second round. The problem is that the duo have been so good that they should win the whole thing.
