7 Reasons Why I Regret Staying Up To Watch WrestleMania 32

One of the most hotly anticipated matches of the entire WrestleMania weekend was the no holds barred street fight between Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose. Fans of all types frothed at the mouth anticipating a wild brawl between two of the best in the business. Brock Lesnar is at his best when trucking dudes around, and Dean Ambrose is as good as anyone (if not better) when it comes to being trucked and staying in the fight.

What we got was a tepid, turgid 'brawl' that brought to a light a number of fairly depressing truths. The first of these is the sad fact that at this point in the game, Brock Lesnar's general schtick is growing a little boring. He brings with him a big match atmosphere unlike any other, but counting suplexes has been tired for a while.

This match also put to bed any idea that WWE is interested in the idea of getting behind Dean Ambrose. He was put to bed by Lesnar fairly simply here. Initially it seemed as though Lesnar would be taking on Bray Wyatt at Mania, but a mixture of Ambrose's popularity and possible cooling on the Wyatts meant that this match was thrown together. Anyone claiming that this was the Mania plan for both men in January of this year is a liar.

Many (myself expected) were hoping to see something along the lines of Lesnar's thrilling brawl with CM Punk at SummerSlam 2013. What we got was a diet version of that match, with Ambrose licking barbed wire and going down fairly quietly. The most disappointing match of the evening.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
