7 Reasons Why Lucha Underground Is Way Better Than WWE

4. Passionate Crowds

As WWE has started to crumble under the weight of their own hubris, one of the more noticeable elements that viewers at home have started to pick up on is just how dead the crowds are at WWE events. Getting the crowd to pop for anything today is seemingly a chore, and the crowds seem to have more fun putting themselves over with witty signs (that get removed by security) and starting chants that disparage the talent in the ring, or ironically call for older talent. Hell, when WWE were in the Liverpool last year, Vince McMahon had to actually come out himself and tell the crowd to start cheering, because they were so bored and unimpressed with what WWE was offering. And this was the UK €“ they are normally the most passionate and supportive crowds on WWE€™s calendar because they don€™t get to see the live events all year round. Again with Lucha this isn€™t a problem. Lucha knows how to emphasise its strengths in regards to production and make the most of their small and intimate environment to create something that is far more engaging for viewers at the arena, and works well for the TV audience at home. Because everyone has such a good view of the ring, and because there are no real safety barriers separating the ringside seats from the action, the whole show has a very personal and familial feel to it. The crowd roar at these events and because the action is so phenomenal in the ring they are constantly breaking out into chants of €˜This is Awesome€™. What€™s really cool though is that we get to see genuine surprise, excitement, and fun being had by the audience. WWE can€™t really show their audiences anymore because they are normally so bored, and it looks ridiculous when they have piped in a fake crowd noise but the crowd are just sitting there with their head resting in their hands trying to stay awake. The crowd at Lucha Underground are a significant part of the matches, right from the moment the talent walks down the aisle past the audience, through to the moment they erupt with joy at the first instance of gravity defying action. It€™s a refreshing change to see a live audience actually enjoying the product rather than simply wondering why they bothered showing up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgNannte8js
