Charlotte Flair: I'm Not Difficult Backstage (WWE News)
WWE star Charlotte Flair says being opinionated doesn't mean you're difficult to manage.
Charlotte Flair doesn't think it's fair to be labeled "difficult" behind the scenes just because she "has an opinion" on the creative process. During an interview with Ilona Maher's Power Hour, Flair said she's been working hard to strike a better balance between being a competitive athlete and knowing how WWE's system works.
That's an ongoing process, even for a veteran who has been with the company since 2012.
By 2026, Charlotte believes she's earned the right to have an opinion on whatever the writing team and management come up with for her character. That doesn't necessarily mean she's being stubborn - she just wants to know it's the best course of action to take, which is no different to any other top star in industry history.
However, Flair also knows ego can get in the way of business: "At the same time, you kind of have to let down your ego as an athlete and go, we are here to tell stories and we’re here to elicit emotion, and if that’s what’s best for the story then you have to just...like...eat it".
Of course, that can easier said than done if a worker doesn't like what the creative team come up with any given week. It was reportedly Charlotte herself who pitched a union with NXT up and comer Tatum Paxley on SmackDown. Most believed that Alexa Bliss (who inspired Tatum's entire career) would've been behind that, but no - it was apparently Flair.
Paxley won her debut match by beating Michin on this week's episode of SmackDown.
