7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1990

1. Hulk Hogan's Showdown With Ultimate Warrior Was Exciting

The best moment in the Rumble match occurred shortly after Hulk Hogan entered at #25. This was right after Warrior tossed out Dibiase. Hogan tossed out Jimmy Snuka, Haku and Honky Tonk Man while Warrior got rid of Tito Santana and Shawn Michaels, who was only in the match for 12 seconds. Warrior tossed out Rick Martel, which meant the ring was empty except for two men. When Warrior faced off with Hogan, the crowd was going crazy. It was one of the first times that they had ever met face to face in the ring. They were the two biggest babyfaces in wrestling with Hogan holding the WWE Title while Warrior was the Intercontinental Champion. Seeing them go at it in this match was probably something people thought they would see, but until it happens you just don't know. http://youtu.be/HSwf5guXOA4 The faces of Hogan and Warrior when they locked eyes was intense. They were ready. The fans were standing. Announcers Tony Schiavone and Jesse Ventura were marking out for it too. They exchanged some shoulder blocks, then did the run the ropes spot and ended with a double clothesline. Later in the match, Warrior was getting attacked by The Barbarian and Rick Rude, who were both heels. Hogan charged in for a clothesline, then accidentally nailed Warrior and eliminated him from the match. It was a great way to get rid of Warrior to build up what was to come. Hogan wasn't targeting him, but he just happened to be there. Three months later, Hogan lost the WWE Title to Warrior in the main event of WrestleMania 6. It was also another example of WWE using the Royal Rumble to build up to a big match at the biggest show of the year.
