Hogan's win was the right move. It was also very obvious, but that's something that we have gotten used to with Rumble matches. Here are a few reasons why Hogan was the right choice for a win: 1) Since there weren't many other top stars in the match, there was no other logical choice. 2) It put him in position to get a WWE Title shot at Sgt. Slaughter. It wasn't official that the Rumble winner would get a title shot, but it made sense that they would use the Rumble to give somebody momentum before a title shot. 3) Due to the Gulf War going on, there was no better choice for an American wrestler to win the match. Hogan's song is called "Real American" and he was a role model for so many. A guy like Jim Duggan was known for being a poplar American, but he was not the star that Hogan was. The Rumble match one year earlier was clearly better than this one, but it wasn't Hogan's fault. Look at who he had to work with. It was the last time Hogan won a Rumble match. He's one of three men to have won the Rumble in back to back years. The other two are Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin.
