7 Things We Learned From WWE Payback

2. CM Punk's Absence Is Still Felt

Payback was held in Chicago, so WWE had to have known going into it that there would be at least a few CM Punk chants. Luckily they have people who can handle that kind of reaction in stride. Not only did Paul Heyman manage to squash the CM Punk chants he was getting, but he was able to generate heat by insulting the Chicago Blackhawks in their hometown. Stephanie McMahon may have had the best response, though. During her segment with Daniel Bryan there was a loud CM Punk chant that broke out among the crowd. Instead of getting upset, she turned it around and told Bryan that the crowd wanted him to quit just like CM Punk did. It was a brilliant move that turned the chants into boos almost immediately. https://twitter.com/sportsmockery/status/473879117080051712 CM Punk was at Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Chicago that night and he even made good on a bet to wear a Los Angeles Kings jersey if the Hawks lost. Punk's contract will be up soon and seeing as he has called himself retired in recent interviews, it is seeming less and less likely that we will see The Second City Savior in a WWE ring ever again.
