4. The 'Diva's Revolution' Must Hit The Reset Button
So Charlotte is the Diva's Champion, and the whole thing just feels like the equivalent of shrugging one's shoulders and merely remarking 'oh?'. Ric Flair's daughter winning a championship should never feel like that, but the apathy that the failed promise of this revolution in female wrestling has brought led exactly to that. The whole thing needs to reset. The bunching of everyone into teams just isn't working, and you don't improve the situation in a division by throwing everyone into a pile and hoping for the best. The women all need space to develop as characters outside of 'we be crazy', and by being herded into teams this isn't going to happen. Sure, keep the Bellas together, but why is Alicia Fox with them? Aside from coming up from NXT, what history do Charlotte and Becky Lynch have? Where to begin with Sasha and Naomi/Tamina? The most interesting thing about the whole area of the show has been the Paige/Nattie segments, and neither of them are 100% aligned with a team. Let the women fly on their own.
Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
