7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2007

7. The Hardys Won An Exciting Opener Against MNM

This was a bit of a dream match since MNM were a very good tag team in the mid-2000s while the Hardys were together in the earlier part of the decade. By the time they got to 2007, these teams weren't together that often. Johnny Nitro (with girlfriend/manager Melina) and Jeff Hardy were Raw guys while Joey Mercury and Matt Hardy were Smackdown guys, so it was a unique match during the brand extension. The backstory for the match was that MNM wanted revenge because Mercury suffered a nasty facial injury at the Armageddon 2006 PPV one month before this. He wrestled this match with a padded mask on. It was no surprise that this was a very good tag match. They basically followed the normal tag team wresting formula where the heels isolated Jeff for much of the match leading to the hot tag to Matt. They wrestled the same style as exciting, fast paced teams so the chemistry was really good. Matt nailed Nitro with a Twist of Fate, Mercury drove Matt out of the ring, Jeff tagged in and hit a perfect Swanton Bomb for the win after 16 minutes. This was one of those underrated tag matches that people don't remember too well just because these teams have had so many amazing matches over the years.
