7 Times John Cena Put WWE Stars Over Huge

4. Daniel Bryan Becomes WWE Champion Briefly At SummerSlam 2013

Last year's SummerSlam main event saw John Cena defend the WWE Title against an opponent he picked: Daniel Bryan. It was the choice of Cena, but it was also the choice of the fans. Bryan was on fire and ready for that main event spotlight, not to mention the rub of working with Cena. We had no idea how the match would be in terms of quality because they hadn't worked that much before. Plus, we knew Cena needed arm surgery so how good could he be? It turns out that he had no limitations at all and did everything he could to make Bryan look like a star. That point about Cena making Bryan look like a star is key because if Cena beat Bryan clean or they did something ot make Bryan look bad it would have hurt him significantly. Instead, they had a very competitive match that Bryan ended up winning with a running knee to the face, which put that move over huge. Bryan beating Cena like that did a lot for him. That's the value of Cena. His name is so big and his success is so well known that if he ends up losing to somebody it's a huge deal for whoever his opponent is. As most people probably remember, Bryan ended up losing the WWE Title right after thanks to the heel turn by Triple H and Randy Orton. With that said, the win over Cena and the importance of the victory for Bryan's career should not be forgotten.
