7 Times Triple H Buried WWE's Tag Team Division

2. The Spirit Squad - 2006

The Spirit Squad is widely remembered as a joke at this point, but it is easy to forget that, in 2006, the quintet were somehow managing to make the ridiculous idea work. They were getting over by virtue of their athleticism and ability to annoy crowds, and a big push seemed on the horizon when they were drafted into the Shawn Michaels/Vince McMahon feud on the side of the boss.

Triple H was on Shawn's side at the time, and as a result, Hunter and the Squad faced off many times throughout the year. 15 times, in fact, and only once did the match not end with Triple H having his hand raised following the bell. Even on that occasion, the Spirit Squad didn't win; the five-on-one match on RAW was declared a no contest.

Hunter and Michaels frequently decimated the Spirit Squad throughout the summer of 2006 and put the final nail in the coffin of the begrudgingly promising stable when they stuffed all five members into a coffin and shipped them off to OVW. It was embarrassing - humiliating - and killed any chance the cheerleader gimmick had of succeeding.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
