7 Times WWE Had Mixed Gender Tag Matches at WrestleMania
5. Sable & Marc Mero Vs. Luna Vachon & Goldust (WrestleMania XIV)
With the dawn of the Attitude Era, WWE had a hot new female sensation with Sable. Although Rena Mero had no experience as a wrestler, Vince Russo decided to make her the face of a revived women's division. Thus, a program with Luna Vachon and The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust was created which culminated in a mixed tag against Sable and husband Marc Mero at WrestleMania XIV.
From the standpoint of crowd reaction and match construction, this is easily the greatest mixed tag match in WrestleMania history. Sable could not talk or work a lick, but by God, she was over in 1998 and at this show in particular. The crowd were utterly dead for any sequence involving the other competitors, but when she tagged in and implemented her limited offense, you'd swear Steve Austin was in the room with how rapturously the audience cheered.
It's a shame good workers like Goldust, Luna, and Marc Mero were overlooked and under-appreciated at that time, and given how Luna's job was threatened if she hurt Sable, this match has some uncomfortable baggage. But as is, this was a fine example of getting the absolute most out of the absolute least.
