7 Ups & 2 Downs For Last Night's NXT (May 20)
6. Tozawa Cut
What can I say about matches in the Cruiserweight Championship tournament that I haven't said literally every single week since it started? Giving these guys the platform like this, and imbuing every single match with genuine stakes and implications, has been one of the best thing's NXT have done since moving to TV. Every week these matches are a highlight.
Tozawa and Fantasma might have a case to say they've put on the best match of the lot though, as their near 10-minute styles clash was brilliant from start to finish. Opening as an inventive test of strength, before evolving into the Lucha-vs-Puro contest Beth Phoenix promised us, the match eventually saw some huge moves exchanged before Fantasma hit the Phantom Driver for the win.
Despite both finishing at 2-1, Fantasma winning here sends him through to the final on head-to-head record. It's a shame for Tozawa, given that every single time WWE gives him a platform he over-delivers, but like pretty much everyone else in this tournament he's too good not to build on this.
