7 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (June 12 - Results & Review)

5. Lack Of Heat Undermines Clever Match

Mercedes Mone Zeuxis
AEW

Mercedes Moné Vs. Zeuxis was a well-worked and thoughtful match affected by a weird, deflating lack of heat. It was a bit of a shame. Moné has absolutely delivered in the ring in AEW, the fans of which are usually receptive to new international talent they may not be familiar with. Despite the inspired matchmaking - Zeuxis stuff looks like it kills, and Mercdes bumps as if she's just been annihilated - the fans never reached a fever pitch. The match was still good, very good in places.

Moné's strong Eddie Guerrero influence meshed well with Zeuxis in some exciting arm-drag struggles, in another layer of good matchmaking, and the match reached its ceiling when Zeuxis rocked Moné with a gruesome/awesome-looking double underhook lung blower. At the finish, Moné, in an attempt to get in the head of upcoming opponent Stephanie Vacquer, used a lucha-inspired float-over set-up to transition into the Moné Maker. That beautiful display of agility and mind game deserved a bigger pop. The whole match did.

Hopefully, the days of the white-hot Texas crowds can make a comeback.
