7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Apr 24)
1. Main Event Disappointment
SmackDown's main event saw AJ Styles reconnect with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows to face the formidable heel force of Rusev, Aiden English, and Shinsuke Nakamura. This sounds like a tremendous bout on paper, but it wasn't worked to the expected standard, and while technically sound, it felt like a house show clash.
We shouldn't expect five-star classics on weekly television, but we should expect better than this, given the level of talent involved. AJ is among the best in the world. On his best days, Nakamura isn't far from that level either, and the rest are perfectly capable themselves. Despite this, the bout was devoid of anything to possibly elevate it above mediocrity, and while we can't call it objectively bad, it was still disappointing.
A supplemental Up for Nakamura's new music. The company needed to give 'The King Of Strong Style' a soundtrack obnoxious enough to prevent the crowd singing his theme, and Japanese violin rap metal should do the trick nicely. The post-match was great too, but we'll get to that later...
