7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Apr 24)

6. An IIconic Victory

With rumours of WWE Women's Tag Team Championships swirling all week, Asuka and Becky Lynch teamed to face The IIconics on last night's SmackDown, and while the bout wasn't something anyone will be thinking about after the show went off the air, it served its purpose.

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce have already been established as SD's most annoying characters. They preluded the match with another incessant promo, with Peyton's Becky impersonation coming off gloriously childish, before the babyfaces arrived to get things going. From there, they worked a fundamentally solid clash that didn't overstay its welcome, and delivered the right outcome, with Lynch getting herself rolled-up with a feet-on-the-ropes pinfall.

This was the correct move, particularly after Kay's loss last week. The IIconics don't need to be presented as dominant, but they do need a degree of protection, as losing constantly was the biggest factor contributing to The Riott Squad's failure on SmackDown. Here, they claimed the scalps of two of the biggest names in their division. This will inevitably lead to the heroes getting revenge in a week or two, but until then, we look forward to more IIconic gloating.
