7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (July 10)
2. Controlled Chaos
Shockingly, the solid work put forth in building the tag programmes yielded an enjoyable SmackDown main event that set the blue brand off to Extreme Rules on a satisfactory note. Professional wrestling isn't difficult.
The opening stages were as chaotic as you'd expect, with the ten competitors scrapping all over the place, leading into the ad break. The New Day were in control when we returned, as a fluid, fast-paced, dynamic bout unfolded. It would've been easy for things to devolve into chaos (particularly as things devolve into chaos is Sanity's gimmick), but the competitors did an admirable job of holding the bout together, and it was laid out in a way that accentuated everyone's strengths without leaving anyone under-represented.
Inevitably, the match became a signature move shootout towards the end, with the babyfaces seizing the advantage. Kofi Kingston's dive and Big E's trademark Spear to the floor (which always looks awesome, no matter how often we see it) helped turn the tide, but Daniel Bryan was the difference maker, blasting Eric Young with a Busaiku Knee Kick for the victory.
A Sanity member taking the fall is somewhat problematic, but not to the extent that it sullied the madcap scrap.
