7 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's NXT (23 Jan)

1. Brawls For All

Rhea Ripley Bianca Belair
NXT

NXT is a one-note wrestling show. Don't get me wrong, it's literally the best note in professional wrestling, but there's still only one of them. Where other (lesser and possibly also airing on Wednesday nights) wrestling shows try to offer some variety with a bit of comedy, some nostalgia, farce, fun etc, NXT just wants to showcase you the most impressive pro-wrestlers on the planet smacking each other at 100mph.

This means that, outside of the matches themselves, brawls and revenge spots are pretty much the only tool they have to help advance their feuds. Last week saw no fewer than three dust-ups both inside and outside the arena, and it took just half an hour for us to get one this week. Bianca Belair, for reasons only she will know, choosing to interfere in the closing stages of Toni Storm vs Io Shirai.

She was inevitably joined by Rhea Ripley, everyone got their stuff in, and Toni Storm was left holding the Women's Championship to surprisingly ferocious booing. Then, at the end of night, we got the exact same thing with Undisputed Era and Imperium. Both segments were good fun and push us nicely towards World's Collide, but we see far, far, far too many incidents like them.
