7 Ups & 3 Downs From UFC 247

4. The Evolution Of The Black Beast

Although he won a controversial decision against Ilir Latifi tonight, you've got to be impressed by the vast improvements Derrick Lewis has made. The heavyweight knockout artist entered the UFC as a predictable power puncher, but has added new weapons to his arsenal consistently fight after fight.

If we were asked to predict what Lewis' main attacks would be against Latifi, a solid overhand right or a devastating hook would've been a fair guess. However, he surprised the fans watching and the commentary team by throwing crushing left switch kicks to his opponent's head and launching himself through the air to land repeated flying knees. You could visibly see the shock on the Swede's face when The Black Beast took flight.

Even though he's become a better mixed martial artist, there are still some improvements that can be made. However, considering how far he's come and the fact that he's still able to make that mental switch and brawl with opponents, it's going to be interesting to see where he improves next.
