7 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dark (Oct 6)
Luther takes the spotlight ahead of Dynamite, though Eddie Kingston & the Lucha Bros stole it.
Serving as an appetiser to Dynamite's entree has been one of AEW Dark's primary functions throughout this deeply weird era of professional wrestling, meaning a Chaos Project tag match became one of last night's centrepieces, as Luther prepared to renew his 30-year relationship with Chris Jericho on the A-show.
It's a bizarre turn of events, building much of the week's programming around 'The Original Death Dealer.' Regardless, the booking does make sense. Luther and Jericho have known each other since 1991. AEW likely didn't want to burn a bigger 30th Anniversary match for 'Le Champion' knowing this is something of a lost week, ratings-wise, with the vice-presidential debate on the other channel, so they went with a neat little story they can wrap in a single tag bout. Easy.
Other highlighted performers included Eddie Kingston (who cut a couple of great promos), the Lucha Brothers, Angelico, Brand Rhodes, and Will Hobbs. Michael Nakazawa and Matt Sydal also fought a "grudge match" based on the latter's All Out slip.
The usual Dark guidelines apply here: a Down isn't necessarily a condemnation, but only hardcore fans of one (or more) of the participants need to check them out.
Let's light the fuse...
