7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (15 May - Review)

5. True To Themselves

Few things are more entertaining than when great superstars know and fully embody their characters, turning the dial up as they go.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens know who they are, and they know how to play off each other and other wrestlers, so watching them open Raw Monday night was an actual treat rather than suffering the usual, unbearable promo train we have to endure.

Zayn railed against Roman Reigns and the Bloodline, screaming about how Roman has gone unchecked for too long, that he doesn’t know when enough is enough – the two world titles and 1,000 days as champs aren’t enough, so he’s coming for the tag titles.

The Judgment Day’s interruption could have felt tacked on, but KO lost it immediately, begging them for a fight. Sami tried to play peacemaker – again, both right in character. But the high point of the segment came with Owens asking Dominik Mysterio what he thought, just so fans could boo him mercilessly, and then getting pissed because he couldn’t hear him and asking Zayn if he could punch Dom in the face.

Tremendous fun to open the show, setting the stakes for the tag title match at Night of Champions, and of course, doing the WWE thing and setting up an impromptu main event once again. SIGH…
